Authorities have apprehended a man in his 40s in connection with a violent robbery at a convenience store, an incident that has revealed a disturbing pattern of criminal activity. The suspect, identified as a Chinese national, is now facing charges for the assault of a store owner and the subsequent theft of cash. Further investigation has uncovered evidence linking him to a similar theft at the same establishment just one month prior.
Elderly Store Owner Attacked in Robbery
The incident occurred on the evening of June 6th around 9 PM in the Dohwa-dong district of Incheon. The suspect allegedly attacked the store’s owner, a man in his 70s, with a blunt object before absconding with approximately 700,000 Korean Won (about $500 USD) in cash. The owner was reportedly alone in the store at the time of the assault.
Pattern of Theft Emerges
In a startling development, it has been revealed that the same convenience store was the target of a robbery approximately one month earlier, on the evening of May 9th. During that incident, an estimated 2 million Korean Won (about $1,400 USD) was stolen.
Police initiated an investigation into the earlier theft but were unable to identify a suspect. However, during the course of the recent investigation into the assault and robbery, a connection was made.
Suspect Identified and Charged
The Incheon Michuhol Police Station announced on June 12th that the suspect, identified as Mr. A, a Chinese national in his 40s, has been taken into custody. He is currently being held on suspicion of robbery and assault. Authorities have confirmed that Mr. A is believed to be the perpetrator of both the recent violent robbery and the earlier theft.
Investigators are considering the possibility that the suspect targeted the store due to its operation as a lottery retailer, potentially anticipating a significant amount of cash being on hand, particularly on a Saturday. The suspect has been transferred to the prosecutor’s office for further investigation and potential indictment.
