A Legacy of Giving Continues Through a Daughter’s Service
A devoted father, who once set aside his own dreams to support his family, has now given the gift of life to three individuals through organ donation following his passing. Kim Yong-seop, 53, was declared brain-dead after collapsing at a hospital on February 20th, initially seeking treatment for shoulder pain. His family, inspired by his lifelong commitment to helping others, made the profound decision to proceed with organ donation.
From Policing Dreams to Family Support
Originally from Yeongwol, Gangwon Province, Kim had aspired to become a police officer in his youth. However, he put his personal ambitions aside to provide for his family, entering the construction industry instead. This unfulfilled dream was later carried forward by his daughter, Jae-kyung.
Jae-kyung is currently serving as a nine-year veteran of the military police within the Army’s 2nd Corps.
A Daughter’s Tribute to Her Father’s Values
Kim Yong-seop deeply cherished his daughter, referring to her as his “own flesh and blood.” Jae-kyung shared, “My father always emphasized the importance of standing up for the weak and those without power.” She added, “I will carry his words and teachings in my heart and live a life without shame.”
The head of the Korea Organ Donation Association expressed, “As we mark the month of national veterans, we hope that the sacrifice and warm heart shown by a soldier’s daughter will be remembered in our society for a long time to come.”
