Ruben Amorim, the former Manchester United manager, has reportedly agreed to all terms for the head coaching position at AC Milan following recent discussions. Amorim has expressed his desire to lead the Italian club, with the final decision now resting with Milan’s management.
Amorim Signals Green Light for Milan Move
European football expert Fabrizio Romano shared on his social media that Amorim met with AC Milan representatives and gave his approval to all contract conditions. This development comes as AC Milan concluded the 2025-2026 Serie A season in fifth place, failing to secure a UEFA Champions League spot and instead qualifying for the Europa League.
Following their disappointing league finish, the Milan hierarchy swiftly dismissed manager Stefano Pioli and has been actively searching for his successor. Reports indicate that Amorim is a leading candidate for the role.
Amorim Faces Competition for Milan Post
Earlier, ‘The Athletic’ reported that the 41-year-old Amorim was at the forefront of the race to become AC Milan’s next head coach. The publication noted that Amorim has been without a club since his dismissal from Manchester United in January and recently held talks with AC Milan officials. Romano has also indicated that Amorim is not the sole contender, with Matthias Jaïssle also in contention.
Jaïssle, currently managing Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, is known for his attacking style of football. The German coach, born in 1988, has garnered significant attention for leading Al-Ahli to consecutive AFC Champions League Elite titles and previously made a notable impact as the manager of Red Bull Salzburg.
Manchester United May Welcome Amorim’s Departure
Manchester United is reportedly receptive to Amorim taking the helm at AC Milan. British media outlet ‘The Telegraph’ suggests that an agreement between Amorim and Milan would be welcome news for United, as it could save them millions of pounds in compensation fees.
Amorim, a Portuguese national, has been unemployed since his departure from Manchester United in January. His tenure with the English club was marked by a low 31% win rate in Premier League matches, leading to him being considered one of the worst managers in the club’s history. However, Manchester United was obligated to pay him a substantial severance package.
According to the club’s financial reports February, Manchester United had to disburse £15.9 million in compensation following Amorim’s dismissal. Should Amorim accept the managerial role at Milan, this compensation figure would be significantly reduced.
Pre-Season Encounter Possible
Manchester United is scheduled to play a friendly match against AC Milan on August 16th in Wrocław, Poland, as part of their pre-season tour. This fixture could potentially see a managerial showdown between Amorim and Michael Carrick, the new manager of Manchester United.
