Tragic Discovery After Coastal Disappearance
A teenage boy who went missing after being swept away by waves off the coast of Chodo Beach in Goseong-gun, Gangwon Province, has been found deceased. The body was discovered just two days after his disappearance.
Incident Details
According to maritime authorities, a report was received on June 24th around 12:24 PM regarding a body found near the seaweed beds close to Chodo Beach in Jugwang-myeon, Goseong-gun.
Upon confirmation by relevant agencies, including the coast guard, the deceased was identified as an 18-year-old male, identified as A. He had been reported missing from the vicinity.
Background of the Disappearance
A had gone into the sea with friends on the morning of June 21st, around 9:40 AM, near Chodo Beach in Jugwang-myeon, Goseong-gun, when he was swept away by the waves. Reports indicate that A and three friends had traveled to Goseong to participate in a street basketball tournament.
During their visit to the beach, A and his friend B entered the water. While B managed to return to shore on his own, A was unable to resurface and went missing.
Search and Rescue Efforts
Following the incident, the coast guard immediately launched a search operation, deploying patrol boats and rescue personnel. However, the high waves presented significant challenges, hindering the search efforts.
