Lotte Home Shopping Drives ESG Culture Through Resource Circulation
Lotte Home Shopping is actively strengthening its environmental management practices, centered around the ESG management slogan, ‘A Better Tomorrow Through Today’s Actions.’ Key initiatives focus on resource circulation, carbon reduction, and fostering an eco-friendly consumption culture.
‘RE’ Resource Circulation Campaign Promotes Social Contribution
In commemoration of Earth Day, the company launched the ‘RE(Return) Resource Circulation Campaign.’ This program encourages employees to donate reusable items such as clothing, books, and household goods. Proceeds from the subsequent flea market sales are then returned to the local community, creating a virtuous cycle of social contribution.
The campaign’s name, ‘RE,’ signifies ‘Reuse’ and ‘Recycle,’ while ‘TURN’ represents adding new value to items and returning them to society. This combination embodies the values of resource circulation and sharing.
Leadership and Employee Engagement Drive Campaign Success
The campaign saw enthusiastic participation from its inception, with the CEO personally donating items on the first day. Executives and employees across various departments followed suit, contributing to the campaign’s widespread adoption within the company. A strong sense of community participation naturally formed, leading to the collection of numerous reusable goods.
To ensure an enjoyable and meaningful experience, incentives were provided. The top 10 donors based on the total value of donated items, along with randomly selected participants, received gifts. These measures aimed to encourage broader employee involvement without creating a burden.
Donated Goods to Support Vulnerable Communities
The donated items are slated for sale next month through a sharing flea market organized in partnership with the organization ‘Beautiful Store.’ All sales profits will be allocated to support underprivileged groups and local community projects.
The campaign aims to evolve beyond a one-time event into a regular program. The vision is to create a system where discarded items find new owners, and the resulting profits benefit those in need, establishing a sustainable cycle.
‘Small Library’ Initiative Expands Eco-Friendly Reading Culture
Beyond the donation drive, Lotte Home Shopping has been consistently establishing eco-friendly reading spaces in educational and welfare facilities nationwide. This initiative began in 2022 with the ‘Haepyeongnuri Small Library’ in Gumi, Gyeongbuk.
A notable success is the ‘100th Special Small Library’ completed last year at the Seoul Children’s Hospital Bald Center. This project exemplifies upcycling by transforming discarded medical supplies and waste textiles into new educational and cultural spaces, garnering significant attention.
Commitment to ESG Management and Social Value
A representative from Lotte Home Shopping stated, “Through the collective participation of customers and employees, we are creating a virtuous cycle where discarded resources are given new value and then returned to the local community.”
The company added, “Moving forward, we will continue to strengthen our ESG management by actively engaging in diverse social contribution activities based on upcycling. We are committed to simultaneously realizing environmental and social value.”
