Pohang Steelers Connect with Future Stars at Youth Soccer Clinic
Pohang Steelers, a club deeply connected to its community, recently spent time with the region’s aspiring young athletes. On the 23rd, the team engaged with local students at the Neulbom Pohang Soccer Field, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and skill development.
This initiative, a collaboration with the Gyeongbuk Pohang Office of Education, is part of an ongoing program titled ‘Neulbom Pohang Soccer Field with Pohang Steelers.’ The program aims to support the healthy growth and active participation in sports for students in the Pohang area. Last year marked the program’s inception, and it has continued to flourish.
Hands-On Training and Engagement
The recent session took place at Idong Elementary School, where approximately 30 students participated. Pohang Steelers players Baek Sung-won, Kim Bum-jun, and Yoon Dae-geun, alongside U18 Hong Jong-gi Coach and U15 Jung Joon-hyung Coach, led the day’s activities. The clinic, held at the Idong-cho Injo Grass Field, spanned about two hours.
Following a fundamental warm-up, Coach Hong Jong-gi and Coach Jung Joon-hyung divided the students into teams. They then led drills designed to enhance basic physical fitness and quickness, crucial elements for young soccer players. The professional players actively joined in, running alongside the students and contributing to a fun and energetic atmosphere.
Fan Interaction and Future Plans
Concluding the soccer clinic, three players held a fan signing session, providing a memorable and meaningful end to the event. Players Kim Bum-jun and Yoon Dae-geun, among the youngest on the team, shared their positive experiences.
“It was incredibly rewarding and fulfilling to see the elementary school students respond so positively,” stated Kim Bum-jun. “Some of the children even brought our uniforms, and it was even more special to meet them off the field, not just at the stadium.” Yoon Dae-geun added, “We hope for more opportunities to meet and interact directly with local students in the future.”
Pohang Steelers remains committed to expanding its community outreach. The club plans to continue collaborating with the Pohang City Office of Education to develop and implement a variety of programs, aiming to increase student participation and engagement across the region.
