Police Investigate BMW Official Dealer Over Allegations of Widespread Fraud
Authorities are currently investigating an employee of an official BMW dealership in connection with allegations of embezzling hundreds of millions of won from customer car payments. The suspect is accused of diverting a portion of vehicle sale proceeds into personal accounts through deceptive promotional schemes.
Details of the Investigation Emerge
According to recent reports, an employee identified as Mr. A, formerly with Dongsung Motors, is under police scrutiny for suspected fraud and embezzlement. The investigation, spearheaded by the Haeundae Police Station, centers on claims that Mr. A orchestrated fraudulent promotions starting in early 2024. These schemes allegedly lured customers into purchasing vehicles by promising benefits not actually available, leading to the diversion of funds.
Investigators believe Mr. A may have misled customers about eligibility for subsidies related to specific financial products. By directing a portion of the car payments into accounts he controlled, the suspect is alleged to have pocketed significant sums.
Victims Come Forward, Scale of Alleged Fraud Revealed
Victims, along with the dealership Dongsung Motors, filed a formal complaint against Mr. A in March of this year. Law enforcement officials estimate that the total amount of money allegedly misappropriated could reach hundreds of millions of won, with over ten individuals identified as victims so far. Mr. A was reportedly apprehended earlier this month.
The police are continuing their investigation to ascertain the full extent of the alleged fraud and to uncover any additional individuals or entities involved.
