Tragic Accident in Busan Claims Two Pedestrian Lives
A devastating traffic accident occurred yesterday afternoon in the Nam-gu district of Busan, resulting in the deaths of two pedestrians. Reports indicate that a passenger vehicle struck and killed two individuals who were walking on the sidewalk.
Incident Details Emerge
The collision took place around 1:08 PM on a road in Daejeon-dong. The driver, identified as a 78-year-old man, was operating a K7 passenger car when it veered onto the sidewalk, hitting two pedestrians. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene immediately.
Victims and Injuries
One of the victims, a woman in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition with cardiac arrest but sadly passed away shortly after. Two other individuals, a teenager and a woman in her 30s, sustained injuries. They were either struck by the vehicle or fell while attempting to avoid it and are currently receiving medical treatment for minor injuries.
Vehicle Fire and Driver’s Statement
Following the accident, a fire broke out in the passenger vehicle. Firefighters arrived promptly and extinguished the blaze. The driver of the vehicle also sustained injuries, reportedly a fracture and sprain to his ankle, and was taken to a local hospital. Authorities confirmed that the driver had not been drinking alcohol at the time of the incident.
The driver reportedly told investigators that the vehicle’s brakes failed, leading to the tragic event. He has been taken into custody and is being questioned by police regarding the incident, which is being investigated under special laws concerning fatal traffic accidents.
