Yongin University is set to allocate approximately 80% of its total enrollment capacity for the 2027 academic year through its early admissions process. A significant development for this year’s admissions cycle is the establishment of a new ‘AI System-Semiconductor Studies’ department, designed to cultivate talent in artificial intelligence and advanced semiconductor technologies. The university plans to admit a total of 1,014 students through the regular admissions track, with a substantial portion designated for this early admission phase.
Comprehensive Early Admissions Breakdown
The early admissions process will select 1,014 students for regular admission tracks. These slots are distributed across various categories: 452 for the general student track, 80 for the gifted student track based on academic achievement, 237 for the special track in free majors, 65 for the special track for equal opportunity, and 180 for the special track for athletic talent.
Beyond the regular admission tracks, an additional 69 students will be admitted through special tracks for individuals from specific backgrounds. This includes 10 students for the special track for basic living security recipients and the lower-income class, 41 students for the special track for rural students, and 18 students for the special track for graduates of specialized high schools.
Introducing the AI System-Semiconductor Studies Department
The newly established ‘AI System-Semiconductor Studies’ department aims to foster future industry leaders by integrating expertise in AI technologies with advanced semiconductor design and manufacturing techniques. This interdisciplinary approach is intended to equip graduates with the skills needed to excel in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
For the 2027 early admissions, the AI System-Semiconductor Studies department will recruit a total of 30 students. These positions are allocated as follows: 18 students through the general student track, 8 students through the gifted student track (academic achievement), 2 students through the equal opportunity special track, and 2 students through the rural student special track.
Diverse Special Tracks and Major Selection
The free major special track will admit a total of 237 students across various fields, including departments for non-military majors, non-police majors, sports majors, cultural arts majors, humanities and social sciences majors, and natural sciences majors. Students admitted to the non-military major track will have the flexibility to choose their specific department after advancing to their second year, with some exceptions for specific departments.
Academic Performance and Skill-Based Evaluation
For the general student track, admissions into humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering departments will be based 100% on high school academic records. However, for the arts and physical education tracks within the general student category, the evaluation will consider 30% academic records and 70% practical skills or performance tests.
Similarly, the gifted student track (academic achievement) will also rely solely on high school academic records for admissions into humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences departments. These applicants must also meet the minimum eligibility requirements for the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT).
CSAT Minimum Requirements and Eligibility
The CSAT minimum eligibility criteria stipulate that applicants must achieve a combined score within the top 8 grades across any two subjects from Korean, English, and Mathematics. For the Police Administration department, the requirement is within the top 9 grades. It is important to note that applicants from domestic middle and high schools without official academic records, or those who have completed their education through 검정고시 (examination for high school equivalency) or foreign high school curricula, are not eligible to apply.
Equal Opportunity and Other Special Tracks
The equal opportunity special track will also select students for non-military, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences departments based entirely on their high school academic records. This track is open to eligible individuals such as basic living security recipients, those from lower-income families, single-parent family 지원 대상자 (support recipients), rural students, and national merit recipients.
For the special track for athletic talent, the selection process will be a combination of high school academic records, practical skills assessments, and performance evaluations, depending on the specific sport and department. The Department of Acting and Performing Arts will conduct stage-based examinations for its various tracks.
Admissions Policies and Application Period
Yongin University’s admissions process will incorporate policies addressing school violence, with sanctions applied from the 4th grade onwards. While applicants can apply to multiple tracks if they meet the respective eligibility criteria, they are permitted to submit applications to only one admission slot per track.
The application period for the early admissions process is scheduled from September 7th to September 11th.
