Signs of a Split Emerged Before Official Announcement
Reports indicate that actress Sooyoung, a member of the K-pop group Girls’ Generation, and actor Jung Kyung-ho have ended their 14-year relationship. Speculation suggests that signs of a breakup may have been present as early as December of last year.
Observations During Filming
A recent online broadcast, hosted by Lee Jin-ho, featured discussions with an entertainment reporter about the couple’s separation. The reporter shared observations from the set of Sooyoung’s drama, ‘Someone Has to Die,’ which concluded last year. Staff members on set reportedly described Sooyoung as appearing visibly troubled, with a demeanor that was described as ‘somber and preoccupied.’
While acknowledging that the drama’s heavy themes could account for an actor’s intense focus, the reporter emphasized that observations extended beyond the professional sphere. “We frequently heard expressions indicating that she was less energetic than usual, appearing downcast and burdened by many worries,” the reporter stated, referencing private interactions.
Following the news of the breakup, these on-set observations reportedly resonated with staff, leading to comments like, “Ah, that’s why.” The drama’s filming period is believed to have taken place during the summer and fall of the previous year. The reporter added, “It’s unclear whether the breakup occurred over several months of contemplation or during the drama’s production.”
Dating Timeline and Public Appearances
Lee Jin-ho also pointed to Jung Kyung-ho’s appearance on Girls’ Generation member Hyoyeon’s YouTube channel in December of last year as a potential indicator. While Jung Kyung-ho had previously spoken about Sooyoung naturally in interviews, his name was reportedly mentioned only once during that specific broadcast. “Jung Kyung-ho himself didn’t bring up Sooyoung’s name. The mention only came after Hyoyeon brought up Sooyoung first,” Lee Jin-ho elaborated.
Differing Approaches to Announcement
Further reports suggest that differing opinions existed between the parties involved and their respective circles regarding the timing and manner of announcing the breakup. According to the reporter, Jung Kyung-ho’s representatives favored a discreet approach, opting to “keep the breakup quiet for as long as possible.” Conversely, Sooyoung’s side reportedly advocated for a more immediate disclosure, pushing to “announce it quickly.” This divergence in strategy highlights a potential tension in how the news was handled.
No Connection to Tiffany’s Marriage
When questioned about whether Tiffany’s recent marriage might have influenced the couple’s decision, the reporter dismissed the notion. “A relationship of this length likely involved pre-existing plans for their lives and futures together,” the reporter explained. “It’s unlikely that a friend’s marriage would suddenly lead to questions like, ‘Why aren’t I married yet?'”
Jung Kyung-ho and Sooyoung first publicly confirmed their relationship in 2012 and were widely recognized as a prominent long-term couple in the entertainment industry. Their decision to part ways after approximately 14 years together marks the end of a significant chapter for both.
