Kim Jong Un Attends Football Showcase
Pyongyang, North Korea – Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, recently attended a commemorative event marking the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Party Central Cadre School. During the event, he observed exhibition matches involving the national women’s football team, which recently secured victory in an international competition, and the U-17 women’s national football team.
Football Excellence Celebrated
The matches featured the domestic women’s football squad, winners of the 2025-2026 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Champions League, and the U-17 women’s national team, champions of the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup held in China. This exhibition aimed to celebrate their recent successes and encourage future achievements.
Kim Jong Un met with the players and coaches from both teams, offering words of encouragement and congratulations. He expressed his wishes for their continued success in future international tournaments.
The event also highlighted the significance of the Party Central Cadre School, described as the highest educational institution for cultivating and re-educating Party cadres. Kim Jong Un emphasized the critical role of cadre development in the nation’s progress.
Squad’s International Success
The domestic women’s football team recently triumphed in the AFC Women’s Champions League held in South Korea. The U-17 team also achieved victory at the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup in China, showcasing the growing talent within the country’s female football programs.
Reports indicate that during the AFC Champions League victory celebration in Suwon, South Korea, members of the domestic team reportedly walked out of a press conference after Korean reporters used the term ‘North Korea’ instead of the official name of the country. North Korean media outlets covered the team’s victory but omitted details about the final match being held in South Korea.
Kim Jong Un’s Address
In remarks at the anniversary event, Kim Jong Un stated, “The nurturing of Party cadres has never been presented as such a desperate and fateful task as it is today.” He also addressed contemporary challenges, noting that while anti-people phenomena such as bureaucracy and corruption are emerging, the fundamental spirit of the people remains unchanged and will continue to do so.
