Actress Kim Young-ok has shared her deep sorrow and longing for her late husband, who passed away recently. In a heartfelt video released on her YouTube channel on the 24th, titled ‘Making Dumplings vs. Rolling Dumplings While Listening to Grandma’s Stories (ft. Dumpling Recipe)’, Kim Young-ok became visibly emotional as she unpacked a delivery of packages.
A Flood of Memories Triggered by a Simple Treat
While organizing the numerous boxes that had accumulated at her doorstep, Kim Young-ok remarked, “I don’t even know what I ordered.” Her emotions surfaced when she discovered a bag of her usual favorite hard candy. She explained that she had ordered it in bulk because “it’s all gone now.” Describing the candy, she noted, “It’s not that sweet. It tastes like sugar granules, which I like, but it’s a bit expensive.”
The sentiment intensified when a different type of candy, specifically brown sugar candy, appeared in another box. Upon seeing it, Kim Young-ok’s voice wavered as she said, “This is something Grandpa used to love.” This immediately brought her late husband to mind.
Regret and Lingering Thoughts
She recalled how her husband would always take some for himself, even when she was eating them. “Even when I didn’t want to eat candy, I gave it to him,” she shared, tears welling up. “Now, I deeply regret not accepting it when he’d playfully say, ‘Ah, I don’t want it!’ and offer it to me.” Kim Young-ok confessed that she thought she wouldn’t cry so easily, having put on a brave face, but her husband’s memory constantly resurfaces, eliciting profound sadness.
Her husband, Kim Young-gil, a former KBS announcer, passed away at the age of 89 last month on the 17th. In a previous meeting with her YouTube production team after arranging her husband’s funeral, Kim Young-ok had expressed her feelings of loneliness. “When my husband was alive, I had to take care of him, so I ate a little bit with him. Now, there’s no one, so I don’t want to eat it,” she had confided.
She also spoke of moments when she felt her husband’s presence. “There are times when I feel like I see my husband’s welcome,” she said, her voice thick with emotion. “The image of him sitting in a chair and looking outside is what catches my eye the most. I’m sorry. I feel like I did everything wrong.”
