Singer Im Jin Files Lawsuit Seeking Unpaid Fees and Contract Termination
Singer Im Jin, 25, has initiated legal proceedings against her agency, Big Planet Made Entertainment, demanding approximately 2 billion won in unpaid fees and the termination of her exclusive contract. The lawsuit, filed on the 16th with the Seoul Central District Court, seeks to invalidate the exclusive contract and compel the payment of outstanding earnings.
Details of the Legal Dispute
Im Jin’s legal team announced on March 27th their intention to terminate the exclusive contract. The current lawsuit aims to confirm the validity of this termination notice. A previous request for a provisional disposition to suspend the exclusive contract’s effect was granted, meaning the contract remains suspended until a final ruling is made.
The singer alleges that Big Planet Made Entertainment has failed to pay her earnings totaling 2.01 billion won for the period spanning the second to fourth quarters of last year, as well as for the first quarter of this year. This, Im Jin’s representatives claim, constitutes a breach of trust.
Furthermore, the situation is compounded by the recent cessation of management support, leaving even staff members unable to receive their salaries. This, according to Im Jin’s side, renders the agency untrustworthy.
Agency’s Response and Related Investigations
During a court hearing on the 27th of last month concerning the provisional disposition, Big Planet Made Entertainment stated, “We do not believe the situation where payments are not made is entirely the debtor’s fault.” The agency indicated a willingness to accept the termination of the exclusive contract if Im Jin formally requested it.
Big Planet Made Entertainment is a subsidiary of One Hundred Red Label, a music planning company. Notably, the representative of One Hundred Red Label is currently under police investigation for alleged fraud amounting to approximately 30 billion won.
