Jo Kuk Takes Responsibility for Election Setback
Jo Kuk, a candidate for the new party, has acknowledged his shortcomings following the recent general election in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province. He stated on the 4th that the outcome was a reflection of his own deficiencies and his sole responsibility.
Pyeongtaek Election Results and Candidate’s Response
Visiting a vote-counting office in Pyeongtaek around 2:50 AM, Jo Kuk emphasized that the primary objective of the June election was to achieve ‘zero’ opposition party representation. While acknowledging that there were meaningful results nationwide, he expressed regret that this mandate could not be fulfilled in Pyeongtaek.
“The citizens of Pyeongtaek embraced me as a warm neighbor, but I failed to meet their expectations,” Jo Kuk stated, accepting the election results with fortitude. He further clarified that the outcome was a personal failure and not an indictment of the supporters’ beliefs or values. Jo Kuk pledged to continue walking alongside his supporters to ensure their hopes are realized.
Election Data and Performance
As of 3:33 AM, with a vote count of 98.25% complete, Jo Kuk recorded 27.38% of the vote, placing him in third position. He trailed Yu Ui-dong, a candidate from the People Power Party, by 7.26 percentage points, with Yu Ui-dong securing 34.64% of the vote.
