Early Turnout at 4.5% for National Local Elections
As of 8:00 AM on Election Day, November 3rd, the national voter turnout for the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections and National Assembly member by-elections has reached 4.5 percent. According to the Central Election Management Commission, 2,070,795 out of a total of 44,649,908 eligible voters had cast their ballots by this time.
This early turnout figure represents a 0.7 percentage point increase compared to the same time during the 8th local elections held four years ago, which recorded a 3.8 percent turnout.
Regional Turnout Variances
Geographically, Gangwon Province reported the highest turnout at 5.7 percent. Daegu followed closely with 5.6 percent. Other regions with significant early participation include Gyeongbuk at 5.5 percent, Gyeongnam at 5.3 percent, and Chungbuk and Chungnam both at 5.1 percent. Ulsan recorded a 4.8 percent turnout.
In the Seoul metropolitan area, Gyeonggi Province, Busan, and Jeju each registered 4.4 percent. Incheon’s turnout stood at 4.2 percent, while Seoul’s was 4.1 percent.
The region with the lowest voter turnout in the early hours was Gwangju, with 2.9 percent. Other areas with lower turnouts include Jeonnam at 3.8 percent, Jeonbuk at 3.6 percent, and Sejong at 3.5 percent.
Voting Information
Voting is scheduled to continue until 6:00 PM today. Eligible voters can cast their ballots at their designated polling stations based on their resident registration.
Voters are required to present a photo identification document when voting. Acceptable forms of identification include resident registration cards, passports, or driver’s licenses.
For mobile identification, voters can present a smartphone application that displays their photograph, name, and date of birth.
