Fashion Icon Hong Jin-kyung Surprised by High Furniture Prices in Paris
Entertainer and model Hong Jin-kyung expressed shock at the price tags of vintage furniture she encountered during a recent trip to Paris. The incident was documented in a YouTube video uploaded on June 15th to her channel, ‘Study King Jin-kyung’ (공부왕찐천재 홍진경).
The video, titled ‘Hong Jin-kyung, who debuted at a Paris fashion show after 30 years, knows how to truly enjoy herself,’ captures Hong’s experiences after finishing filming for the program ‘Sora and Jin-kyung’ (소라와 진경). She remained in Paris alone and spent time with a photographer who had taken her promotional photos, and model Ahn Jae-hyung, whom she met through broadcasts.
Model’s Comeback and Changing Industry Trends
Hong Jin-kyung shared her excitement about her modeling comeback after 20 years, noting that she was cast in two auditions for the ‘Metropolitan’ agency. When Ahn Jae-hyung remarked that he thought she would be older, Hong reflected on the evolving landscape of the modeling industry. “I thought, ‘Why did they cast me?’ Now, the times have changed. Back then, they only used top 10 models. Even models in their late twenties were considered old,” she explained.
She questioned if the current trend embraces older models, noting that even individuals with significant age are now attending auditions. Ahn Jae-hyung responded that designers are increasingly choosing individuals based on their unique aura and presence, regardless of age.
Encountering High-End Vintage Furniture
Following their shopping excursion, Hong Jin-kyung and Ahn Jae-hyung visited a bustling flea market the next day. While browsing vintage furniture, Hong inquired about the price of a piece she admired. The combined cost for two pieces was approximately 11 million Korean Won (around $8,000 USD). Hong asked if a lower price was possible.
Another chair, of a different design, was priced at approximately 18 million Korean Won (around $13,000 USD), with a slight reduction from 9,800 Euros to 9,000 Euros. “The price isn’t great,” Hong commented. “These are works of art, and because it’s vintage, this is the price. Otherwise, it would truly be tens of millions of Won,” she exclaimed, marveling at the cost.
