Casemiro Secures Inter Miami Move, Aims to Play Alongside Messi
Brazilian international midfielder Casemiro has finalized a free agent deal with Inter Miami, departing English Premier League club Manchester United. The move sees Casemiro transition from European football to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, as anticipated.
Transfer Confirmed by Reliable Sources
Well-informed football transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed on social media that Inter Miami and Casemiro have reached an agreement for a free agent contract. “Inter Miami have agreed terms with Casemiro for a free agent deal. This is as confirmed back in March,” Romano reported. He further elaborated, “Casemiro wanted to play with Lionel Messi and join Inter Miami’s ambitious project. The signing is expected within weeks.”
According to Romano, both Casemiro and Inter Miami’s management have agreed on the contract duration, with all formalities anticipated to be concluded and an official announcement expected in the coming days.
Casemiro’s Manchester United Tenure
Casemiro’s contract with Manchester United was set to conclude at the end of the 2025-2026 season. He played a pivotal role in the team’s strong performance last season, helping them secure a third-place finish in the Premier League after a mid-season slump. His contributions were particularly significant during the latter half of the season under interim manager Michael Carrick, where his crucial headed goals were instrumental in securing victories.
Despite his impactful performances, Casemiro and Manchester United’s management had previously agreed that his contract would end in late June. Casemiro had communicated this decision to the fans. Following this, his continued strong play led many Manchester United supporters to hope he would extend his stay at Old Trafford for at least one more season.
However, Casemiro remained steadfast in his decision. Manchester United’s management also appeared ready to move on from the veteran midfielder and embrace new changes in the midfield. Consequently, they did not actively pursue retaining him.
Inter Miami’s Ambitious Project
Reports suggest that Casemiro received offers from clubs in Italy and Saudi Arabia. Ultimately, his decision was to join Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. There were also earlier discussions about Son Heung-min’s club, LAFC, showing interest in Casemiro.
Casemiro is currently representing the Brazilian national team in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers. Brazil, considered a strong contender for the tournament, is competing in Group B against Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland. Brazil’s opening match against Morocco ended in a 1-1 draw. They secured a 3-0 victory against Haiti in their second match on the 20th. With one win and one draw, Brazil is scheduled to play their final group stage match against Scotland on the 25th.
