A former candidate for mayor in Busan, South Korea, has reportedly admitted to staging a physical assault incident to garner public sympathy and boost his electoral prospects during the recent June 3rd local elections. Investigations revealed that the former candidate, identified as Jeong, confessed to fabricating the event to police prior to the election, despite his public claims of being an unknown victim.

According to reports from the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency and the Geumjeong Police Station on September 9th, Jeong and his personal trainer, identified only as Mr. A, are suspected of colluding to stage a beverage-throwing incident. The alleged incident occurred on April 27th near the Nadulmok area in Geumjeong District, Busan.
Investigators believe the two individuals, who had known each other for nearly a decade, orchestrated the event to gain a political advantage. A police official stated, “It appears the two individuals fabricated the incident to gain an advantage in the election.”
The Fabricated Incident and Initial Claims
During the supposed incident, Jeong claimed that a vehicle driven by a supporter of his rival, Yoo, had sped past and thrown a beverage at him through the car window. Jeong alleged that in the process of avoiding the thrown drink, he fell and lost consciousness. He further claimed to have been diagnosed with a cerebral contusion and muscle contusion at a local hospital.
The police initiated an investigation based on a report filed by a member of Jeong’s election campaign staff. Initially, the focus was on Mr. A, the individual who allegedly threw the beverage, to determine if the act constituted election interference or a politically motivated attack.
Evidence Contradicts Initial Account

Multiple phone conversations between the two leading up to the incident were uncovered.
