The highly anticipated Boryeong Mud Festival is back, offering a unique summer experience where visitors can immerse themselves in therapeutic mud while enjoying vibrant nighttime performances. This year’s festival, celebrating its 29th iteration, promises an expanded program of mud-based activities and live entertainment, running until August 9th at Daecheon Beach and the Mud Festival Quảng trường in Boryeong City, South Chungcheong Province.
Immersive Mud Experiences for All Ages
The festival grounds are designed to cater to diverse preferences, with various zones dedicated to mud-based fun. The main Mud Quảng trường serves as the central hub for these activities. For general visitors, the ‘General Zone’ offers a chance to play in the mud. Families can enjoy the ‘Family Zone,’ featuring dedicated rest areas and shaded spots. Younger attendees will find excitement in the ‘Water Park Zone,’ specifically designed for children. A unique addition this year is the ‘Mongde Zone,’ allowing visitors to bring their pets along for a muddy adventure.
Further enhancing the mud experience, a new ‘Mud Mask Zone’ has been introduced, equipped with 20 self-massage tools for visitors to enjoy a mud mask treatment. For those seeking a more scenic experience, a ‘Mud Infinity Pool’ has been created, offering stunning ocean views while participants indulge in mud therapy.
Specialized Mud Zones and Operating Hours
The mud experience zones are strategically organized to provide maximum enjoyment and convenience. The ‘General Zone’ operates with extended hours on specific days. For instance, on August 6th, it will be open from 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM, with a break from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Other mud experience zones will run continuously from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM on the same day.
During weekdays (Monday to Thursday), these zones are typically open from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. On weekends (Friday to Sunday), the operating hours are extended from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with a one-hour break from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM.
Post-mud activities are made comfortable with premium resting areas equipped with full-body showers, sinks, and hair dryers. The Family Zone and Water Park Zone offer dedicated rest shelters and car shelters for families with children.
Nighttime Entertainment: Music and Performances
As the sun sets, the festival transforms into a vibrant entertainment hub with the ‘Mud on the Beach’ event series. This section of the festival is geared towards a younger audience, featuring immersive performances including EDM and DJ sets. The lineup also includes a variety of themed nighttime concerts and shows catering to different generations.
Notable events include a ‘Drone Light Show’ and a ‘K-Hip Hop Festival’ held on July 31st and August 1st, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This hip-hop segment features performances by popular artists such as Skull & Haha, DinDin, Hanhae, MC Sniper, Yang Dong-geun, Hangzoo, and Black Nine.
A major highlight is the ‘Big Mud Show,’ scheduled in two parts on August 8th from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM on the main special stage. Part 1 will feature performances by Rockit Girl, Wina, Noi Boyz, and Oltee. Part 2 will include artists like Hui, Choa, Badkiz, NewJeansnim, Choonja, and NoBrain.
The festival will culminate on August 9th with a closing ceremony and a Super Concert from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Popular singers such as Lee Chan-won, Kim Yong-bin, Choon-gil, Miss Kim, Jung Hye-rin, and Go-ain are slated to perform, bringing the festival to a memorable close.
Visitor Comfort and Festival Vision
Beyond the core attractions, the festival organizers have prioritized visitor comfort and convenience. Facilities such as mist zones for cooling, rest areas utilizing pine forests, and shaded walkways along visitor routes have been implemented to ensure a pleasant experience. These thoughtful additions aim to allow attendees to fully enjoy the festival’s offerings.
