Suspect Detained in Assault at LG Electronics Facility
Authorities have apprehended a suspect in connection with an assault that occurred at an LG Electronics office, resulting in injuries to two employees. The individual, identified as Jeong, 60, has been taken into custody on charges of bodily harm.
Details of the Incident
The incident unfolded on the 27th of last month around 11 AM at the Science Park facility in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. According to investigative reports, Jeong allegedly wielded a camping knife, attacking two LG Electronics employees. The victims, a man in his 50s and another in his 40s, sustained injuries to their ribs and arms, respectively. Both were transported to a hospital for treatment but are reported to be in stable condition, with no life-threatening injuries.
Motive Under Investigation
Jeong reportedly claimed the attack was a reaction to perceived mistreatment and harassment from the victims. However, the investigation has thus far found no evidence to support Jeong’s assertion of receiving harassment. Instead, evidence suggests the victims requested a task reassignment from Jeong, who was allegedly struggling with his workload. It is believed Jeong perceived this request as harassment and subsequently retaliated.
Internal Review Finds No Wrongdoing
A separate internal review conducted by LG Electronics found no corroborating evidence of workplace bullying, mistreatment, or disregard towards Jeong by the injured employees. The findings from both the criminal investigation and the internal review indicate a significant discrepancy with the suspect’s account of events.
