South Korean Climbing Star Seo Chae-hyun Earns Lead Medal
Renowned South Korean sport climber Seo Chae-hyun has secured a lead discipline bronze medal at the 6th leg of the 2026 International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Climbing Series. The lead discipline challenges athletes to ascend a wall of at least 15 meters as high as possible within a set time limit.
Strong Performance in Austria
In the women’s lead final held in Innsbruck, Austria, on October 22nd (Korean time), Seo Chae-hyun, aged 23, achieved a score of 36+. This placed her third, behind Janja Garnbret of Slovenia, who recorded 44, and Annie Sanders of the United States, who scored 38+.
Consistent Season for Seo Chae-hyun
This latest achievement marks a significant milestone in Seo Chae-hyun’s current season. She has now successfully placed in all three lead discipline events she has participated in this season, including the 2nd, 5th, and 6th legs of the series. Including her performance in lead disciplines last season, this is her fourth consecutive competition where she has stood on the podium.
Previous Podium Finishes
Earlier this season, Seo Chae-hyun claimed a bronze medal at the 2nd leg of the series in Wujiang, China, in May. Subsequently, in June, she earned a silver medal at the 5th leg in Prague, Czech Republic. Last year, she secured a silver medal at the 13th leg of the competition in Koper, Slovenia, in September.
