Baseball Coach Involved in DUI Crash
A coaching staff member for the professional baseball team, the Kiwoom Heroes, has been arrested following a drunk driving incident that resulted in a collision with another vehicle and a police patrol car. The accident left two individuals requiring medical treatment.
Incident Details Emerge
According to reports law enforcement, the incident occurred around 6:25 AM local time in Guri City, Gyeonggi Province. The coach was reportedly driving his personal vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He collided with an oncoming car that was executing a U-turn on a six-lane road.
The impact of the initial collision caused the coach’s vehicle to veer off the road, where it subsequently struck the rear of a parked police patrol car. The driver of the U-turning vehicle, a man in his 60s, and a police officer who was inside the patrol car sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are investigating the accident, with preliminary findings suggesting the coach may have disregarded a traffic signal while proceeding straight, leading to the collision with the vehicle making a legal U-turn. A breathalyzer test administered immediately after the crash indicated a blood alcohol content at a level that would typically lead to the revocation of a driver’s license.
The coach has been taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving and other related traffic violations. Investigators are working to determine the precise sequence of events leading to the crash.
Team Acknowledges Incident
The Kiwoom baseball organization has been made aware of the situation and is currently verifying the details of the incident. Further comment is expected as the investigation progresses.
