Police Investigate Unlawful Entry at Olympic Park Handball Arena
Authorities are now investigating an incident of unauthorized entry at the Olympic Park Handball Arena in Seoul, following reports that individuals allegedly breached security measures and entered the facility without permission. The venue, which was designated as a polling station for the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections on June 3rd, has been the site of ongoing protests due to a shortage of ballot boxes.
Allegations of Security Breach
According to information received, the Songpa Police Station in Seoul recently lodged a complaint from the company managing the venue. The complaint details suspicions of property damage and unauthorized entry. It is believed that on the evening of July 7th, external individuals reportedly bypassed the locked basement entrance of the handball arena and entered the premises, allegedly capturing video footage inside.
Ongoing Investigation Amidst Protests
While law enforcement is working to ascertain the exact sequence of events, the ongoing protests at the site are expected to complicate the investigation. The protests, aimed at preventing the removal of ballot boxes and ballots, have seen citizens blocking the entrances to the venue since July 5th. The Olympic Park Handball Arena served as a polling station for the Songpa District during the recent local elections.
Investigators are currently reviewing the circumstances surrounding the alleged breach to determine the extent of any wrongdoing and identify those involved.
