Nationwide Clouds and Rain Mark Summer Solstice
Sunday, June 21st, the longest day of the year, known as the Summer Solstice, will see widespread cloud cover across the country. The eastern coastal regions of Gangwon Province are forecast to experience overcast conditions, with some areas continuing to receive rain into the morning.
Daytime high temperatures are expected to reach approximately 30 degrees Celsius. According to meteorological reports, rain is anticipated to persist in the mountainous and coastal areas of Gangwon Province until the morning of June 21st, followed by strong winds throughout the afternoon. The East Sea will experience very high waves, potentially exceeding 5 meters.
Rainfall and Fog Projections
Expected rainfall amounts are between 20 to 60 millimeters for the northern mountainous and coastal areas of Gangwon Province, and 5 to 40 millimeters for the central and southern mountainous and coastal regions of Gangwon Province. In addition to the rain, dense fog is forecast to reduce visibility to less than 1 kilometer in inland areas of the Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang provinces from dawn until late morning. Roads near rivers, lakes, and valleys are particularly susceptible to thicker fog.
Coastal residents are advised to exercise caution due to the potential for high waves caused by onshore winds. These waves may breach seawalls and breakwaters, posing a risk of safety incidents.
