A middle school student in Gwangju pushed a teacher to the ground during a swimming instruction session, leading to an internal investigation and disciplinary measures.
Details of the Incident
The altercation occurred on July 27 at a local middle school. Student A and teacher B, who share the same class, clashed during the activity. Witnesses observed the two exchanging words before the student shoved the teacher, who was attempting to assist with the drill, causing the teacher to fall.
Prior tensions had escalated into a physical confrontation, with colleagues noting the teacher’s efforts to de-escalate the situation amid the ongoing exercise.
Police Response and School Actions
Teacher B promptly reported the incident to authorities. Responding officers conducted an on-site assessment and found no visible injuries. Without a subsequent medical certificate, the case concluded without further action.
The school classified Student A as a repeat offender and imposed a suspension. Currently, the student remains under disciplinary review.
Ongoing Disciplinary Process
Officials have referred the matter to the Teachers’ Rights Protection Committee for further evaluation. The Gwangju City Education Office plans to grant teacher B special paid leave and explore options for a workplace transfer to ensure support.
