Outstanding novelist Hwang Sok-yong has been named the recipient of the nation’s highest cultural honor, the Geumgwan Order of Cultural Benefit, the tradition ministry stated Friday.
Hwang is amongst 33 recipients of the 2025 awards for contributors to the event of tradition and the humanities, together with 17 honorees of the Order of Cultural Benefit.
The 82-year-old creator of “Jang Gil-san,” “Princess Bari” and “A Highway to Sampo” was acknowledged for his profound perception into social realities and his contributions to social therapeutic and reflection, having formed the course of Korean literature for greater than half a century, the ministry stated.
The award ceremony is scheduled to happen later within the day on the Modeu Artwork Theater in central Seoul.
“I lengthen my honest congratulations and respect to all 33 awardees,” stated Kim Younger-soo, the ministry’s first vice minister, vowing the federal government’s continued assist “to appreciate the imaginative and prescient of Korea as a cultural powerhouse.”
