The 18-year-old talent will play for the MLS Next Pro team affiliated with Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC, a club renowned for featuring South Korean superstar Son Heung-min. Hailing from Yongin Taesung FC U-18 (Taesung High School), Yoo Seung-jae has established himself as a dynamic winger. His standout attributes include exceptional one-on-one dribbling skills and a keen ability to create scoring opportunities within the penalty area. These talents were instrumental in leading his team to victory in the 2024 Muhakgi National High School Football Championship, alongside his professional debut teammate and former Taesung FC U-18 senior, Kang Dong-hwi (19).
Yoo’s potential was further recognized when he received the Best Fair Play award at the championship. His prowess also earned him a spot on the U-16 national team in the same year, underscoring his early promise.

This season marked Yoo Seung-jae’s entry into the K League 1, South Korea’s top professional football division. He made his league debut on May 25th, coming on as a substitute for Kim Shin-jin in the second half of Jeju United’s home match against Pohang Steelers in the Hana Bank K League 1 2026 Round 25. At 18 years, 4 months, and 25 days old, his debut was a significant milestone.
While he did not break the all-time record for the youngest K League 1 debutant, previously set by Yoo Gong at 17 years, 5 months, and 19 days in 1984, Yoo Seung-jae became the first player to appear in a K League 1 match as a high school student since Jeju United established its base in Jeju in 2006. Yoo Seung-jae’s move to the United States is a direct result of the long-term youth development partnership established between Jeju United and R&G (Red & Gold Football). R&G is a global youth development platform co-founded in 2023 by German club FC Bayern Munich and LAFC. Jeju United became the first Asian club to sign a partnership agreement with R&G in September of last year.
This collaboration has already facilitated international opportunities for young players. Previously, Jeju United loaned out goalkeeper Heo Jae-won (18), a product of the club’s youth system, to Bayern Munich through the R&G program. Yoo Seung-jae’s transfer to LAFC2 marks the second instance of a player advancing overseas via this strategic partnership.
Performance at the R&G Global Trophy
Yoo Seung-jae showcased his abilities on an international stage when he participated in the ‘R&G Global Trophy’ held at the Bayern Munich campus in Munich, Germany, from June 3rd to 6th. He represented Jeju United’s U-18 team in this friendly tournament, which featured eight U-18 teams from clubs within the R&G platform, including Bayern Munich, LAFC, Gamba Osaka, Racing Montevideo, Aucas, Grasshopper, and Innsbruck.
During the tournament, Yoo Seung-jae delivered impressive performances against international opponents, catching the attention of LAFC officials. This strong showing led to LAFC2 extending an offer for his acquisition. Jeju United sanctioned the loan move, prioritizing the player’s development and future value creation.
LAFC2 and the MLS Next Pro League
LAFC2 competes in MLS Next Pro, the third division of professional soccer in the United States. This league has become a crucial development ground for emerging talents, with 42 players from MLS Next Pro having gone on to represent their nations in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in North and Central America.
