Actor Im Hyun-sik recounted a harrowing experience returning to South Korea from Germany after filming the movie ‘HOPE,’ detailing an unexpected diversion and a tense landing. The incident, which felt more like a dramatic film than reality, unfolded during his journey back from Romania, where he was working on the film.
Unexpected Detour and Missed Flight
Im Hyun-sik’s ordeal began when he and his daughter, who is fluent in English, attempted to board their flight from Germany back to Korea. They missed their connecting flight because they couldn’t locate the correct shuttle bus in time, forcing them to spend an unplanned additional night in Germany.
Mid-Air Scare and Emergency Landing
The situation escalated dramatically the following day. While en route to Korea, the plane carrying Im Hyun-sik and other passengers passed over Turkey. Suddenly, an announcement declared an urgent need to land due to a passenger experiencing a ‘fluid deficiency.’ The captain announced that the flight would not proceed to Turkey as planned but would instead return to Germany.
This news caused considerable anxiety among the passengers. Im Hyun-sik described the prolonged tension during the four-hour flight back to Germany, stating, “I was constantly on edge during the four hours it took to return to Germany from Turkey.”
A Glimpse of Emergency Vehicles
The tension peaked as the plane prepared to land at a German airport. Im Hyun-sik vividly recalled the sight that greeted them on the runway. “As the plane was about to land at the German airport, there were long lines of ambulances and fire trucks on both sides of the runway,” he said. “I thought, ‘Is something going to happen as we land?'” he recalled, describing the gravity of the moment.
This unexpected turn of events meant Im Hyun-sik had to spend another night in Germany. Reflecting on the experience, he humorously remarked, “Although I ended up having two extra days of vacation for free, it was my first time experiencing a vacation amidst such fear.” His comment brought laughter to the studio audience.
Misunderstood Compliments and Media Frenzy
In a separate segment of the show, Im Hyun-sik also addressed his public image, particularly the perception that he is overly flirtatious. He explained how a simple compliment given to actor Hwang Suk-jung led to widespread rumors.
Hwang Suk-jung recounted an incident where, after Moon Se-yoon jokingly remarked that she was good at ‘sum’ (a term sometimes used to imply flirting or charm), she immediately responded, “If you say ‘sum,’ you get caught.” This lighthearted exchange set the stage for her humorous revelations.
She further elaborated on a past interview with Kim Gook-jin for a program. During the interview, she praised him, saying, “You are very charming.” However, this comment was quickly twisted by the media into headlines suggesting a romantic involvement, with reports claiming she was ‘catching sum’ with him, implying a pink-toned relationship.
Hwang Suk-jung expressed her frustration, explaining that she had used similar compliments like “You are truly charming” for other male actors, including Ji Sang-ryeol and others. Yet, these remarks were consistently interpreted as her being infatuated with every man she met, leading to a distorted public image.
Self-Deprecating Humor
Despite her annoyance, Hwang Suk-jung concluded her story with a touch of self-deprecating humor. “Perhaps I give off a vibe that I’m a bit passionate about something,” she mused, “or maybe it seems like I have desires.” Her witty analysis lightened the mood in the studio.
