A Promising Start Dashed by Poor Choices
Born in 2000, Willock was once considered a highly touted talent within the Manchester United youth system. He joined the club’s academy at the age of seven and progressed through the ranks, eventually earning a place in the first-team squad for the 2019-2020 season. Then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær recognized his potential and provided him with numerous opportunities, with Willock featuring in over 30 games in his debut season.
However, his career trajectory soon took a sharp downturn. Unable to establish himself further at Manchester United, he was loaned out to several clubs, including Rochdale and Ipswich Town. “Looking back, that decision to leave home is still one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made. I really should have stayed at home,” Willock confessed. “Leaving home at 19 and playing for Manchester United meant there were so many things that could go wrong. I was too immature; I didn’t know enough, and I should have stayed at home with my parents to manage the situation and be controlled.”
Following his release from Manchester United, Willock had a brief stint with Hull City for the 2025-2026 season. However, he only managed to play three games before being released again. He described his feelings upon leaving Manchester United:
