Minister Kim Young-hoon to Address AI Transformation at International Labor Organization
Minister of Employment and Labor, Kim Young-hoon, is set to deliver a key address at the International Labour Organization (ILO) General Conference on October 10th. The focus of his presentation will be on a ‘human-centric artificial intelligence (AI) transition.’
Promoting Labor Rights Amidst Technological Change
During his address, Minister Kim will emphasize the importance of navigating the AI transformation with a focus on protecting workers’ rights, strengthening social safety nets, and fostering social dialogue. This approach aligns with the government’s policy direction for an ‘industrial transformation with labor at its core.’
Minister Kim departed on October 7th to attend the ILO General Conference, which is being held in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 8th to 10th. He is accompanied by a delegation including Kim Ji-hyung, Chairperson of the Economic and Social Council, and National Assembly members Lee Hak-young and Kim Ju-young of the Democratic Party, as well as Kim Hyung-dong and Kim Ui-sang of the People Power Party.
Highlighting International Cooperation and Development Aid
Prior to his speech, Minister Kim will host a ‘Korea-ILO Partnership Project Reception.’ This event will bring together representatives from key beneficiary countries of South Korea’s international cooperation projects, including Cambodia, Paraguay, Vietnam, and Mongolia. The objective is to share project achievements and discuss future development strategies.
Since 2004, South Korea has been actively supporting developing countries in areas such as vocational training, youth employment, industrial safety, and social solidarity economics. The planned support budget for the period of 2024-2026 amounts to 16.6 billion Korean won.
Bilateral Meetings and Discussions on Labor Relations
Throughout the General Conference, Minister Kim is scheduled to meet with several high-ranking officials, including the Director-General of the ILO, the Spanish Minister of Labor, Social Economy and Migrations, and the Dutch Minister of Social Affairs and Employment.
Following the ILO conference, from October 11th to 12th, Minister Kim will travel to Germany. There, he plans to engage in discussions with German employers’ associations and the Federation of Trade Unions, focusing on successful models of social dialogue between labor and management.
