Jecheon City Council in Chungcheongbuk-do has secured a 2.9 billion won budget to deliver condolence payments to families affected by the tragic 2017 sports center fire.
Budget Approval Details
During its 356th executive committee’s second plenary session on April 26, the council unanimously approved the full estimate for condolence funds dedicated to the Haso-dong fire victims. Officials plan to convene a second review committee next month to finalize the exact payout amounts for the bereaved families.
City leaders aim to disburse the funds within the first half of the year, ensuring timely support for those impacted.
The 2017 Haso-dong Sports Center Fire
The incident occurred on December 21, 2017, when a fire broke out at the Haso-dong Sports Center due to arson. The blaze claimed 29 lives and injured 40 others, marking one of the deadliest fire disasters in recent South Korean history.
