Director Jang Hang-jun revealed a touching act of generosity on “You Quiz on the Block,” where he tapped 50 million won from his director’s discretionary fund to treat his entire staff to a Europe trip.
The story emerged amid discussions about the fan meeting for his hit film “The Man Who Lives with the King,” held in a single venue for the first time. Fellow guest actor Yoo Ji-tae lauded Jang’s proactive style and shared details of the spontaneous decision.
Yoo Ji-tae’s Praise for Leadership
Yoo Ji-tae reflected on the project’s scenario, saying, “The first read made me think of Han Myeong-hoe right away. He’s been driving it from day one with real passion and no slacking—that energy stands out.”
He added, “The fine details reveal bold, distinctive touches. Done right, it could produce another gem like Han Myeong-hoe. Crises even hold potential for positive change.”
Yoo highlighted Jang’s mindset: “Jang said, ‘Let’s make it happen here,’ then committed 50 million won for the staff’s Europe getaway. It shows sharp choices and firm commitments. He powered through despite no initial budget.”
Jang Opens Up on Early Struggles
Jang shared his initial doubts: “I worried this vibe would lock into the scenario too tightly. Veteran leads lack hands-on know-how, so they can’t solo it—like sending a young calf to haul a massive load.”
To boost morale, he connected personally, giving staff light-hearted taps, pouring drinks himself, and toasting alongside the company head.
“These moments build my strength. They’re the feel-good stories I really want to highlight,” Jang stated.
