Neo40 Black, a premium distilled soju, has claimed the top honor in the premium soju category at the 2026 Great Korea Liquor Awards. Organizers announced the win on April 21.
Awards Recognize Domestic Liquor Excellence
The Great Korea Liquor Awards evaluates leading domestic liquors based on overall product quality, flavor profiles, and manufacturing philosophies. This prestigious event highlights innovation across the industry.
Collaboration Drives Neo40 Black’s Success
Neo40 Black emerges from a partnership between Sihyangga, experts in traditional distillation techniques, and Ulisul Company, specialists in product planning and branding. Sihyangga centers production around Galumi grain distillate, incorporating aging and blending processes to deliver deep flavors and a stable, smooth texture—even at high proof levels.
Despite its strength, the soju minimizes harsh alcohol notes while emphasizing warmth and a lingering aftertaste, setting it apart in the high-end market.
Strategic Positioning for Modern Tastes
Ulisul Company positions Neo40 Black beyond a simple high-proof spirit, envisioning it as a premium soju that enhances meals. The team crafted the product’s concept, market positioning, and full distribution strategy to align with contemporary dining.
From the outset, developers collaborated with renowned chef Choi Kang-rok to define a precise taste direction, prioritizing a distinct presence over aggressive stimulation.
Judges Praise Balance and Depth
The awards committee chairman highlighted the soju’s refined qualities, stating, “Even as a high-proof distilled liquor, it avoids rough textures. The depth and balance from aging and blending leave a strong impression.”
Ulisul Company Looks Ahead
An Ulisul Company representative noted, “This grand prize recognizes Sihyangga’s technical expertise alongside our consistent focus on quality from planning through execution.” They added, “Moving forward, we aim to expand Galumi distilled liquor’s strengths, integrating it naturally into modern food culture for broader appeal.”
