LG Twins Achieve Unprecedented Offensive Outburst
In a stunning display of power hitting, the LG Twins have etched their name in the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) record books. During a weekend series finale against the Doosan Bears at Jamsil Stadium on Sunday, the Twins launched an astonishing four home runs in the first inning alone, securing a remarkable comeback victory and setting a new league benchmark.
Historic First Inning Performance
Trailing 0-1 in the bottom of the first inning, the Twins’ offense exploded. This marked the first time in KBO history that four home runs were hit in a single first inning. The feat is particularly notable given Jamsil Stadium’s reputation as a large ballpark, making such an offensive surge even more impressive. The previous record for most home runs in a first inning was three, achieved on multiple occasions.
The offensive barrage began with leadoff hitter Song Chan-ui, who connected with a 145km/h fastball from Doosan’s starting pitcher, Jack Little, sending a towering 130-meter solo shot to the deepest part of center field. This was Song’s eighth home run of the season.
The home run parade continued with the next batter, Park Hae-min, flying out. However, with one out, third batter Austin delivered another solo blast. Austin crushed a 126km/h slider from Little, driving it over the fence for a 132-meter home run, his 21st of the season. This milestone propelled Austin into sole possession of the league lead in home runs, surpassing Kim Do-young of the KIA Tigers, who had 20.
The onslaught wasn’t over. After Moon Bo-gyeong grounded out, fifth batter Park Dong-won launched another solo homer. Park drove a 139km/h slider over the left-center field fence for a massive 135-meter home run. The consecutive home runs clearly rattled the Doosan pitcher, who appeared visibly dejected.
But the first-inning scoring spree concluded with sixth batter Moon Jeong-bin, who also hit a solo home run to the same area as Park Dong-won’s blast. In total, Jack Little conceded four earned runs (all via home runs) on just 25 pitches in the first inning. He later gave up a home run to Park Shin-ji in the second inning.
Mun Jeong-bin’s Continued Impact
Moon Jeong-bin further extended the lead in the fifth inning with another crucial home run. This marked his fourth and fifth home runs of the season against the Doosan Bears. Throughout the three-game series, Moon has been a key offensive contributor, recording two hits, including two home runs, and three RBIs in three at-bats.
Starting the game as the first baseman, Moon has consistently shown solid defensive play, demonstrating his growth as a valuable asset for the LG Twins. The team, once referred to as the “Little Bears,” has transformed into a formidable force, especially considering their home field advantage at Jamsil Stadium, a challenging venue for power hitting.
Team Power and League Dominance
The LG Twins currently rank tied for fourth in the league with 63 team home runs. In contrast, the Doosan Bears, who also play at Jamsil, have hit 52 home runs, placing them eighth. With LG currently leading the league standings, Jamsil Stadium is feeling less like a large ballpark and more like a launching pad for their powerful offense.
