The Kiwoom Heroes have broken their four-game losing streak, with manager Hong Won-ki expressing immense praise for his team’s stellar performance in their recent victory. The win was a testament to the ace pitcher’s solid outing, the bullpen’s unwavering support, and the offense’s sharp focus early in the game.
Heroes Secure Crucial Victory Over Bears
On July 7th, the Heroes faced the Doosan Bears in an away game at Jamsil Baseball Stadium. The team secured a 4-1 win, largely due to a strong performance from starting pitcher Ra-ul Alcantara, who pitched six solid innings, and a two-run home run by Kester Hura. This victory allowed Kiwoom to snap their losing streak on the final day of the weekend series, significantly boosting team morale.
Manager Praises Pitching Staff
Following the game, manager Hong Won-ki shared his satisfaction with the team’s performance. He specifically highlighted the efforts of the pitching staff, who maintained control on the mound. This was a welcome relief for Hong, who had been concerned about the rotation’s recent inconsistency.
“Starting pitcher Alcantara allowed one earned run, but he managed to pitch six complete innings, effectively stopping the losing streak,” Hong stated, giving a thumbs-up to the ace for fulfilling his role. He also expressed contentment with the bullpen’s work from the seventh inning onwards.
“The bullpen, including Park Jeong-hoon, Yu-to, and Won Jong-hyeon, pitched without allowing any runs, successfully completing the innings they were assigned,” Hong added.
Offense Ignites Early, Securing Momentum
The offense proved decisive early in the game, with the Heroes capitalizing on opportunities against Doosan’s starter. Their ability to score three runs in the first inning completely shifted the game’s momentum.
“With Kester Hura’s timely hit and Im Byeong-wook’s two-run home run, we scored runs from the first inning, taking the early momentum,” Hong analyzed. Hura, a new foreign hitter, demonstrated excellent hitting form.
“In the second inning, Hura hit another good shot, extending our lead,” Hong praised. He also acknowledged the contribution of lead-off hitter Seo Geon-chang.
“Lead-off hitter Seo Geon-chang played the role of an offensive pioneer, reaching base three times and driving in runs,” Hong said, expressing deep gratitude for the veteran’s performance that set the table for the offense.
Fan Support Fuels Team Spirit
The enthusiastic cheers of the fans who filled Jamsil Stadium provided the motivation for the players, who had been weary from the losing streak. Manager Hong concluded his remarks with a heartfelt message of thanks to the home crowd.
“Thanks to the fans who came to the stadium even though it was an away game and offered great support, our players were able to draw strength on the mound and at bat. I sincerely thank the fans and will thoroughly prepare for the next home series next week, aiming to continue this positive momentum,” Hong stated.
