Kim Ho-ryeong, a player for the KIA Tigers, achieved a personal best in single-game RBIs with six, marking a significant performance in the recent KBO League game. This offensive outburst contributed to the Tigers’ dominant 11-1 victory over the Kiwoom Heroes on June 21st at Gocheok Sky Dome, extending KIA’s winning streak to six games.
Kim Ho-ryeong’s Career-Defining Game
Starting as the number nine hitter, Kim Ho-ryeong delivered a stellar performance, going 3-for-4 with a home run, six RBIs, and two runs scored. His impact was felt throughout the game, helping his team secure a crucial win.
Kim’s offensive contributions began early in the game. In the second inning, with one out and a runner on first, he hit a single. Later, in the sixth inning, with the Tigers leading 2-0 and runners on first and third with one out, he drove in the team’s first run with a sacrifice fly. This play marked his first RBI of the game.
A Milestone Grand Slam
The most dramatic moment of Kim’s performance came in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, he connected with a pitch from opposing pitcher Park Ji-seong, sending the ball over the fence for a grand slam. This was Kim’s second career grand slam and his first in 412 days, dating back to a game against the Lotte Giants on July 5, 2025, in Gwangju.
Reflecting on the grand slam, Kim explained, “I was looking for a fastball, and the pitch came in a bit high. I had seen the changeup before, so I timed my swing for the fastball. It happened to be a slightly inside pitch that drifted towards the middle, and I think that’s why I made good contact.”
Record-Breaking RBI Performance
Kim’s offensive prowess didn’t stop there. In the ninth inning, with two outs and runners on first and second, he hit a double, driving in two more runs. This brought his total for the game to six RBIs, setting a new personal record for a single game.
The KIA Tigers, powered by Kim Ho-ryeong’s exceptional hitting, secured an impressive 11-1 victory, continuing their impressive six-game winning streak.
Kim Ho-ryeong’s Season Performance and Second-Half Outlook
Entering the game, Kim Ho-ryeong had been having a strong season, posting a.269 batting average with 13 home runs, 58 RBIs, 64 runs scored, and an OPS of.744 over 108 games. This performance represented a career-high season for the player.
However, his performance in the second half of the season had seen a slight dip. Prior to the June 21st game, he had recorded a.230 batting average with 2 home runs, 12 RBIs, 14 runs scored, and an OPS of.629 in 23 games during the latter part of the season.
Addressing Recent Struggles
In his post-game interview, Kim acknowledged the challenges he faced in the recent games. “I felt stressed and it was a bit difficult,” he admitted. “But I just kept telling myself it would work out if I just kept playing, and I persevered. I didn’t have any physical difficulties. However, I was striking out a lot, which led me to overthink at the plate. I was swinging at bad pitches, and I felt like I had fallen into a slump of my own making.”
He added, “Lately, things have been improving, and I need to work hard to maintain this feeling. My batting average dropped significantly, which is disappointing. I want to raise my batting average further. I believe I can do that by concentrating more in the remaining games.”
Looking Ahead
Kim’s batting average had fallen to.269 from a high of.292 on June 19th. Despite the recent dip, his personal-best performance in the game against the Heroes has provided a significant boost. Kim expressed his determination to build on this momentum, aiming to improve his batting average and contribute further to the KIA Tigers’ success in the remainder of the season.
The player’s ability to overcome recent struggles and deliver a record-setting performance underscores his resilience and potential to be a key offensive force for the Tigers in the second half of the season.
