Eagles Break Losing Streak with Decisive Win
The Hanwha Eagles have successfully ended their recent losing streak, powered by a stellar pitching performance from Wang Yeon-cheong and a crucial home run from Noh Si-hwan. The team secured a commanding 9-2 victory against the SSG Landers in their ninth matchup of the season, held at the SSG Landers Field in Incheon.
This win halts a two-game skid for the Eagles, allowing them to regain momentum and close the gap in the standings. Notably, Hanwha maintains a strong advantage over SSG this season, holding a 7-2 record in head-to-head contests.
Key Moments and Scoring Plays
The early innings of the game were characterized by a tight pitching duel between Hanwha’s Wang Yeon-cheong and SSG’s Ha Chi. Neither team managed to score through the first three innings, despite SSG threatening in the bottom of the first with a Park Sung-han infield hit that was ultimately nullified by Choi Jeong’s groundout.
Hanwha broke the deadlock in the top of the fourth. After a leadoff batter was hit by a pitch, Moon Hyun-bin reached on an infield single, putting runners on first and third. Kang Baek-ho’s sacrifice fly brought home the first run, giving Hanwha a 1-0 lead. The Eagles extended their advantage to 2-0 when Heo In-seong delivered an RBI single with two outs, scoring Moon Hyun-bin.
SSG managed to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Kim Sung-uk led off with a double, advancing to third on a throwing error. Go Myung-jun’s sacrifice fly allowed Kim Sung-uk to score, bringing SSG within one run at 2-1.
However, Hanwha quickly responded in the top of the sixth. Noh Si-hwan blasted a two-run home run off Ha Chi in a full-count situation, sending a 149 km/h fastball over the center field fence. This marked Noh’s fourth consecutive game with a home run, extending Hanwha’s lead to 4-1.
SSG threatened again in the bottom of the sixth but failed to capitalize on runners on third. In the bottom of the seventh, Kim Sung-uk hit a solo home run, narrowing the deficit to 4-2.
The Eagles put the game out of reach in the top of the eighth with a crucial five-run surge. Following a walk and an infield single, Kang Baek-ho hit a run-scoring single. An ensuing error on a ground ball allowed Moon Hyun-bin to score, and another RBI single by Heo In-seong brought in another run. Lee Do-yoon’s sacrifice fly added a fifth run in the inning, extending Hanwha’s lead to 7-2.
Kim Tae-yeon then sealed the victory with a two-run home run, bringing the final score to 9-2.
Pitching Dominance
Starting pitcher Wang Yeon-cheong delivered a masterful performance, pitching 5 and 2/3 innings. He allowed six hits, struck out five, issued one walk, and committed one balk, earning the win and improving his season record to 6-3.
The SSG Landers, meanwhile, have now dropped two consecutive games, struggling to maintain their recent positive momentum.
