Lee Jung-hoo Powers Giants with Historic 5-Hit Performance
San Francisco Giants outfielder Lee Jung-hoo achieved a career milestone on June 1st, recording his first five-hit game in Major League Baseball (MLB). This remarkable offensive display came during the Giants’ decisive 19-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Playing as the number five hitter, Lee went 6-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. His impressive performance began in the first inning with a clutch RBI single with two outs and runners on first and third. He continued his hot streak in the fifth inning, delivering a double and another single. In the seventh, he drove in a run with a sacrifice fly with a runner on second, and he added another single in the eighth.
This offensive surge has significantly boosted Lee’s season batting average to .304, marking his return to hitting above .300 for the first time since April 29th. The Giants’ offense collectively racked up 25 hits, ending their five-game losing streak with the dominant win.
Return from Injury
Lee had recently been placed on the injured list due to a groin strain last month. He made his return to the lineup for this weekend’s three-game series against the Rockies. His performance in his return games has been stellar, with four hits in his first game back, multiple hits in the second, and now a career-high five hits in this latest contest, demonstrating his current strong form at the plate.
Other Korean Players in MLB
In other MLB news, Kim Ha-seong of the Atlanta Braves started at shortstop against the Cincinnati Reds but went hitless in three at-bats, dropping his batting average to .089. Song Sung-moon of the San Diego Padres also started as a second baseman but remained hitless in two at-bats.
