Hong Kyung-min Reveals Father Still Controls Family Finances After 12 Years of Marriage
During a recent broadcast of MBN’s ‘Sokpulisho Dongchimi,’ singer and television personality Hong Kyung-min shared a surprising detail about his family’s financial management. Despite being married for 12 years, Hong Kyung-min revealed that his father continues to oversee all family assets.
Strict Upbringing and Financial Control
Hong Kyung-min, 50, recounted his father’s strict and sensitive nature during his upbringing. He recalled an incident early in his career as a singer when his father laid down clear expectations.
“After my first album was released, my father sat me down and said, ‘Now that you have an album, you’re a singer. You might become popular. Listen carefully: if you think you’ve become a star and start defying your parents, or if you think you’re a wealthy star and start buying foreign cars and luxury goods, I have two sons, so one of you will disappear,'” Hong Kyung-min explained.
This strict approach extends to his finances even now. Hong Kyung-min stated, “My father has never allowed me to manage money directly. He still manages it himself.” This revelation surprised the other guests on the show.
Appreciation for Wife’s Understanding
He further elaborated on his father’s reasoning, quoting him as saying, “You probably don’t know, but if I leave it to you, you’ll only make things better for others.” Hong Kyung-min expressed deep gratitude for his wife’s understanding in this situation, highlighting it as a significant point of recognition for her.
“In this day and age, what woman would allow her father-in-law to manage her assets?” he mused, acknowledging his wife’s acceptance of the unconventional financial arrangement.
Hong Kyung-min also touched upon his wife’s initial skepticism but ultimate acceptance, noting that while she understood the need for funds, the situation was far from typical, especially given the public scrutiny often faced by celebrity families regarding their finances.

Fellow panelist Noh Sa-yeon speculated, “He must have saved a lot of money. I think he’s saved a tremendous amount.” In response, Hong Kyung-min admitted, “My father doesn’t spend money easily,” and confessed, “Frankly, I don’t really know how much assets we have.””
