The Democratic Party revealed plans to hold a primary election between Lee Jae-seung and Jeon Jae-su for its Busan mayoral candidate, aiming to finalize the nomination through a competitive process.
Busan Mayoral Race Details
Kim Yi-su, chair of the party’s nomination management committee, held a briefing where he confirmed that both applicants for the Busan Metropolitan City mayor position have advanced to the primary stage. “The two candidates who applied for the Busan mayoral election have both been selected as primary contenders,” Kim stated.
Lee Jae-seung, a former Busan city councilor, and Jeon Jae-su, Busan’s sole three-term lawmaker and ex-Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, will compete in the primary.
Upcoming Schedules for Other Regions
For the Daegu mayoral election, a lottery draw for applicants is scheduled from March 27 to 31. Interviews for registered candidates will follow on April 3.
In Gyeongbuk Province, Kim announced a single-nomination strategy. “To overcome regionalism, we have selected Woo Jong-ki as the sole candidate for Gyeongbuk governor,” he explained.
These moves signal the party’s active preparations ahead of the local elections, focusing on key regional battles.
