Hanhwa Eagles and Samsung Lions Battle to a Stalemate in Rain-Soaked Match
A crucial late-game offensive opportunity for the Hanhwa Eagles was ultimately thwarted by the heavens, as their scheduled contest against the Samsung Lions concluded in a 3-3 tie. The game, held on the 19th at the Daejeon Hanwha Life Eagles Park, saw Hanhwa unable to break their six-game losing streak, bringing their season record to 33 wins, 2 ties, and 35 losses. Samsung, who had been on a five-game winning streak, also saw their momentum halted, with their record now standing at 39 wins, 2 ties, and 27 losses.
Early Innings See Score Exchange
Hanhwa opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Lead-off hitter Lee Do-yun reached on a double, and a subsequent wild throw on a fly ball allowed him to advance and score. Samsung responded in the top of the third. Kim Sang-jun reached base on a hit-by-pitch, and after Kim Ji-chan singled to put runners on first and third, Kim Sung-yoon grounded out, allowing the runner from third to score, tying the game at 1-1. Gu Ja-wook then drew a walk, and a timely single by Ruyin Diaz gave Samsung a 2-1 lead.
Hanhwa Reclaims Lead, Samsung Fights Back
The Eagles leveled the score in the bottom of the sixth inning with consecutive singles from Moon Hyun-bin, Kang Baek-ho, and Noh Si-hwan, making it 2-2. Hanhwa then took a 3-2 lead in the seventh. Heo In-seok drew a walk, and after a sacrifice bunt by Shim Woo-joon moved the runner to second, Lee Do-yun hit a sharp grounder that was unfortunately hit directly at the shortstop. Following this, Peraza drew a walk. Moon Hyun-bin then blasted a decisive double to left field, bringing in the go-ahead run.
Samsung, however, refused to concede. In the top of the eighth, with one out, Kim Sung-yoon and Gu Ja-wook hit consecutive singles to put runners on first and second. Diaz then hit a ground ball to the shortstop. Shim Woo-joon fielded the ball and stepped on second base for the force out, but his throw to first was errant, allowing Kim Sung-yoon, the runner who started on second, to score, tying the game at 3-3.
Late Innings and Stoppage Seal Draw
In the top of the ninth, Samsung loaded the bases with a walk, a single, and another walk, creating a two-out threat with Gu Ja-wook at the plate. Hanhwa brought in reliever Lee Sang-gyu to face him. After working through eight innings, the game was called due to heavy rain and difficult field conditions. The contest officially ended in a 3-3 draw.
Pitching for Hanhwa, Park Joon-young started and pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs. He was followed by Cho Dong-wook, Park Sang-won, Lee Sang-gyu, Jung Woo-ju, and Lee Min-woo, who all pitched scoreless outings in relief. For Samsung, Ariel Jurado pitched six innings, giving up two earned runs (one unearned). Lee Seung-min, Bae Chan-seung, Lee Seung-hyun, Baeck Jung-hyun, and Kim Jae-yoon also took the mound in relief.
