Nationwide Rainfall Expected to Bring Relief from Heat
Much of the country is set to experience rainfall on Monday, August 8th, signaling a potential reprieve from the recent spell of intense summer heat. Weather forecasts indicate that the downpour will begin in the early morning hours in some regions and continue through the day in others.
Regional Forecasts and Expected Rainfall Amounts
The capital region, along with the Chungcheong provinces and northern Gyeongbuk, can expect rain until the early morning of August 8th. Coastal areas of Gangwon Province, southern Jeonnam, Gyeongnam, and Jeju Island will see precipitation through the morning.
Later in the afternoon, scattered showers are anticipated, particularly in the inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, northern Chungbuk, mountainous and northeastern coastal regions of Gyeongbuk, and the central and eastern inland areas of Gyeongnam. Busan is also expected to receive showers.
Rainfall amounts are forecast to be generally light in many areas. Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi Province, the eastern coast of Gangwon, the Chungcheong provinces, Gyeongsang provinces, and Jeju Island are expected to receive less than 5mm of rain. Gangwon inland and mountainous regions, along with Jeonbuk Province, are predicted to receive between 5mm and 20mm, with the eastern part of Jeonbuk expecting 5mm to 10mm.
Potential Hazards and Weather Advisories
In areas experiencing rain, there is a possibility of thunder and lightning, and some regions may encounter hail. Authorities are urging vigilance regarding infrastructure management and potential safety incidents. Citizens are advised to exercise caution.
Temperature Trends and Visibility
The extreme heat that persisted through the middle of last week is expected to subside. Temperatures are projected to remain around seasonal averages for the time being. The lowest temperatures on the morning of August 8th are anticipated to range between 14 to 20 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs reaching between 20 and 27 degrees Celsius. These figures are comparable to the average seasonal temperatures, which typically range from 14-18 degrees Celsius in the morning and 22-28 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.
In the mountainous regions of Gangwon Province, low-lying clouds, influenced by easterly winds, could lead to dense fog with visibility under 200 meters until the morning. Mariners and those operating vessels at sea are advised to be aware of strong winds and high waves expected along the eastern coast, particularly in the northern sea areas. Gusts of 8 to 13 meters per second (30 to 45 kilometers per hour) are forecast to continue until the afternoon, with wave heights reaching 1.5 to 2.5 meters. Caution is advised for all sea-faring activities.
