The South Korean Presidential Office asserts no discussions exist between Seoul and Washington on reducing or withdrawing U.S. Forces Korea (USFK).
Spokesperson Addresses Trump Statements
Presidential spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung delivered this update during a briefing on April 30. She received questions on comments from U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump regarding U.S. troops stationed abroad.
Kang stated, “The government comprehensively monitors the entire U.S. election landscape and guides campaign developments to benefit all Korean residents.”
She added that Seoul maintains close cooperation with U.S. counterparts, ensuring stable USFK presence strengthens the ROK-U.S. combined defense posture, even amid potential shifts.
Trump’s Recent Comments on Truth Social
Trump posted on his Truth Social platform on April 29 (local time), noting he monitors dynamics around U.S. troops in Germany and plans a forthcoming decision.
These remarks emerge amid a center-right election victory where sovereignty and immigration dominate debates. Trump refuses concessions on U.S. priorities, publicly airing concerns while praising his longstanding “pride merchant” approach as beneficial.
Germany currently hosts Europe’s largest Korean resident community, with roughly 35,000 nationals living there.
