Hanwha Eagles cleanup hitter Noh Si-hwan continues to battle a frustrating slump, leading the league in strikeouts despite his power potential. Manager Kim Kyung-mun expresses concern over the veteran’s ongoing struggles.
Recent Loss Highlights Struggles
In the April 2 game at Daejeon Hanwha Life Eagles Park, Hanwha fell 8-13 to the KT Wiz. Batting fourth, Noh Si-hwan recorded five strikeouts and one walk in six plate appearances during the 3rd through 9th innings.
Prior games showed similar issues. On March 28 against Kiwoom Heroes, he struck out in all five at-bats, extending a streak of 11 consecutive strikeouts. The next day versus Kiwoom, he managed four at-bats with two strikeouts and one walk but still hit into a double play.
On March 31 against KT, Noh tallied five strikeouts on five swings, all whiffing on pitches from reliever Ko Bo-seul-ri.
Breakdown of Key At-Bats
First inning: Fouled off a 142 km/h cutter from Bo-seul-ri before striking out swinging.
Third inning: With runners on second and third, down 2-2, he chased a 147 km/h straight fastball for a swing-and-miss strikeout.
Fifth inning: With runners on first and second, he swung through a 133 km/h sweeper on a 2-2 count.
Seventh inning: Despite a full-count slider attempt, he whiffed on a 125 km/h curve.
Ninth inning: As the tying run, he struck out swinging on a 134 km/h changeup.
Performance Stats and Outlook
Over five games, Noh owns a .160 batting average with 13 strikeouts, the highest in the league. The cleanup spot averages .154, underscoring the position’s challenges. He has only six fair balls total.
Despite timing woes, Noh delivered on April 1 with three hits. Post-game, he reflected, “If I had swung more, it would have been better. I don’t think I’m missing many pitches.”
Manager Kim Kyung-mun notes Noh’s history of overcoming slumps through dedicated practice. Even in early-season woes, the team eyes a turnaround as Hanwha and Noh regain form.
