A man in his 40s held 20 female employees in their 20s hostage inside a hospital room in Daejeon, swinging a weapon at one of them in a shocking incident. All victims worked for the suspect, marking a terrifying ordeal for the young women.
Details of the Hospital Assault
The attack unfolded around 5:55 p.m. on April 30 in a white-walled room on the second floor of a hospital located in Deoksan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon. The suspect, identified as a man in his 40s, entered the premises and took the group captive, directing his aggression toward one female employee in her 20s by wielding a sharp object.
Police swiftly intervened at the scene, apprehending the man directly after he sustained injuries during the confrontation. The targeted employee suffered a leg wound but faces no life-threatening conditions and is undergoing treatment.
Investigation Underway
Authorities confirm the suspect recognized individuals outside the room but refrained from further attacks due to the hostage situation. Both the perpetrator and victims were direct colleagues at the hospital’s inpatient ward entrance, indicating they knew each other prior to the event.
One victim reportedly showed leniency toward the suspect during the incident, despite the violence. Daejeon Deoksan Police Station has charged the man with attempted murder and is probing potential motives, including personal grudges.
Police officials stated, “Investigators are focusing on the full context of the assault, including any intent to cause fatal harm. Strict measures will follow upon completion of the probe.”
The case highlights vulnerabilities in workplace dynamics and hospital security, with ongoing efforts to ensure victim support and justice.
