Police Launch Investigation into CU Parcel Service Data Breach
Authorities have initiated an investigation into a significant data breach affecting the parcel delivery service of CU convenience stores. The National Police Agency’s Cyber Terror Response Division confirmed on the 8th that they commenced an on-site inspection on the 6th to comprehensively understand the facts of the case and swiftly interrogate those involved.
The police aim to determine the scope of the personal information leak and the extent of the damage incurred. They also plan to pursue measures to identify the individuals suspected of being responsible for the data exfiltration.
Details of the Breach
According to information from BGF Networks, the operator of CU’s parcel service, an unauthorized hacker accessed the system on the 4th and exfiltrated personal data. The compromised information is believed to include user IDs, passwords, names, genders, addresses, email addresses, and mobile phone numbers.
BGF Networks stated that upon recognizing the incident, they immediately blocked the malicious IP address. The company also reported the breach to relevant authorities, including the Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).
