Investigator Seeks Protection After Filing Public Complaint
An investigator, who previously alleged a cover-up in a drug investigation, has formally filed a public complaint with the National Human Rights Commission. The investigator is also seeking official whistleblower protection.
Extensive Documentation Submitted
The investigator announced on social media on the 14th that approximately 6,000 pages of documents were submitted to the Human Rights Commission on the 12th. This submission included investigation records and official documents compiled during the investigation process. The investigator also completed the registration as a public whistleblower.
In a statement, the investigator explained the motivations behind enduring a thousand days of attacks and criticism: “The sole reason for enduring was to obtain an opportunity to investigate.” The investigator added, “I will no longer beg for an opportunity to investigate from government institutions.”
Allegations of Withheld Information
Regarding the joint investigation team for drug cases at the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors’ Office, the investigator claimed to have been excluded from all investigation meetings. Furthermore, no investigation materials were shared with the investigator. Allegations were also raised that wiretapping and search operations were not conducted properly.
Commitment to Transparency
The investigator expressed a commitment to making the truth public, stating, “I will bring the records of truth from the secrecy of power and disclose them all to the ‘people and the court of history.'” The investigator added, “The handling of these records will be entrusted to the public investigation committee and the legal authorities.”
Following the conclusion of the joint investigation team’s assignment, the investigator has returned to the position of Head of the Gangseo Police Station Fire Investigation Unit in Seoul. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is reportedly conducting an internal audit concerning the investigator’s actions in leaking investigation records.
