Special Prosecutor Concludes First Interrogation of Former President
The second special investigation team, led by Prosecutor Kwon Chang-young, has concluded its initial questioning of former President Yoon Seok-yeol. The interrogation, which focused on allegations related to the transfer of classified information, lasted for approximately six and a half hours.
Former President Yoon concluded his statement around 4:30 PM on the 6th and departed the special prosecutor’s office in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, by car. His legal team stated that the former president provided a full account regarding matters within his knowledge and exercised his right to remain silent on other aspects, presenting his testimony truthfully.
Allegations of Directing Information Transfers
Yoon arrived at the special prosecutor’s office at approximately 9:47 AM, appearing as a suspect in a case involving alleged direct abuse of power. The investigation commenced at 10:00 AM.
The core of the inquiry centers on suspicions that former President Yoon, following the emergency declaration of a Level 3 alert on December 3rd, instructed the National Security Office to relay messages to then-U.S. President Donald Trump and other foreign leaders, asserting that the transfer of classified information was justified.
Defense Denies Directives
Following the interrogation, Yoon’s defense team addressed the press. They stated that the special prosecution team appeared to believe that former President Yoon had provided detailed instructions, even unique directives, through the National Security Office. However, the defense team explained that such claims are unfounded.
Former President Yoon is scheduled to return for a second interrogation on the 13th. This upcoming session will focus on allegations of violating military law through the alleged transfer of a ‘wooden gun’ – a method of simulated combat training.
