Lai Kuan-lin, former Wanna One member, shares his heartfelt thoughts after stepping away from the entertainment industry. The newest episode of Netflix’s ‘Wanna One Go,’ released on the 5th, captures his reunion with Ha Sung-woon at Beijing Airport.
Emotional Reunion and Career Shift
Ha Sung-woon meets Lai Kuan-lin, who has transitioned into a film director. The pair reconnect after a long time apart, with other Wanna One members watching the touching moment on screen.
Now based in China, Lai Kuan-lin expresses deep affection for Korean cuisine. He personally prepares dishes like hansik, highlighting his strong connection to his roots.
“When I first arrived in Busan, I had no friends or family nearby. I craved Korean food so much but had no one to ask. I had no choice but to make it myself,” Lai Kuan-lin revealed.
Embracing a New Path in Filmmaking
Charting a course in cinema, Lai Kuan-lin works at a Chinese film production company. He hones screenwriting skills and focuses on short films, finding stability in his salaried role.
“I’ve joined a film company in China, learning about scripts while mainly producing short films. As a monthly earner now, my mind feels secure,” he explained. “I love this pace. I truly enjoy steadily progressing at my own speed, unlike rushing into idol life.”
Ha Sung-woon impresses with fluent Korean, prompting Lai Kuan-lin to admit lingering sentiments for Korea.
“I still have strong feelings for Korea,” he confessed.
Tattoo Tribute to Wanna One Roots
Lai Kuan-lin unveils a fresh tattoo on his arm, featuring Wanna One’s debut date of August 7 prominently in the center.
“It’s a day worth celebrating every year—something to engrave personally as a milestone. It’s the day my hard work paid off,” he shared, moving everyone present.
Previously, Lai Kuan-lin resolved a contract dispute with Cube Entertainment in 2019, securing a victory in 2021. He continues activities in China and debuted as a director with the 2021 short film The Difference Between Winter and Summer.
