Han Dong-hoon, former presidential candidate, unleashed sharp criticism against the prosecution’s decision to dismiss charges in the high-profile case linked to Lee Jae-myung. Speaking during a campaign stop in Busan Buk-gu for a National Assembly by-election, he described the move as “driving citizens into despair” and insisted, “Even AI would call it a crazy act.”
Remarks in Recent Interview
Han made these comments during an interview on the YouTube channel ‘Hulk Baek’s Do’ on May 2. He labeled the dismissal the “biggest prosecutorial blunder,” adding, “If the National Assembly and government offices are responsible for such critical failures, I would have entered as a lawmaker to fix it.”
Reflecting on his 2024 decision not to appoint selected veteran reporters after the party convention, Han noted, “Many supporters felt disappointment and a sense of betrayal, yet as someone aspiring to be a National Assembly member, I empathize.” He reiterated his resolve, stating that entering government as a lawmaker remains a priority.
Outrage Over ‘Save My Life’ Decision
Han further condemned the action, saying, “It’s like saying ‘save my life’—that kind of thing. Even before considering right or wrong, it’s utterly insane, something AI would recognize as deranged.” He pointed out that despite Lee Jae-myung’s administration claiming AI leadership within 3-5 years, progress lags, with only one book published in 10 months despite entering the by-election race.
“If someone competent appears in 10 months, they wouldn’t venture out like this,” Han remarked, criticizing the lack of substance. “Talented people emerging now lack real impact without substance.”
Campaign Momentum in Busan
During visits to Busan Buk-gu National Assembly candidate Park Min-sik and others on April 29, Han engaged voters directly. He met with former Hajungwoo chief and AI Future Education Professor, pondering Lee Jae-myung’s regime’s AI claims versus actual delivery.
National sentiment favors unity between presidential hopefuls and party members amid the by-election. On May 1, the presidential general relations committee urged Busan Buk-gu unity pledges, emphasizing voter demands for harmony. Han stressed to Facebook affiliates, “Rigid power factions here aren’t about Han Dong-hoon alone; we must collaborate.”
In the interview, Han emphasized, “Exposing Busan Buk-gu dramatically and reclaiming voters is crucial amid great turmoil. In such crises, unity becomes paramount.” He added, “Even if a charismatic leader emerges here, capturing Han Dong-hoon is key to victory,” urging strategic voter engagement.
